The Pierre Cayron business was created in 1980 :
« It’s because I’m a cabinet-maker and because I’ve chosen, cut and worked on pieces of wood myself which later enabled me to make real furniture, that I can speak clearly to you about what our profession means to us here.»
Working with wood
-
Gathering :
Rigorous selection of the tree in its natural environment. This is cut during the autumn the moment at which the sap descends, thus avoiding parasites.
- Maturity of wood :
The trees are stocked in the open air for 1 year before being cut into planks.
we let the wood mature in order that it becomes more supple, more tender and less nervous.
-
Sawing :
Every tree is sawed individually. The sawyer makes sure that the tree is cut in the direction of the grain of the wood (wood fibre). This prevents the planks from warping.
-
Drying :
1st drying of the planks in the open air for 3 months, then artificial kilning in order to obtain a 10% wood hygrometry.
Stability of the components : timber does not warp.
